Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) 85/15 ground beef
- 1/4 cup certified gluten-free breadcrumbs or certified gluten-free rolled oats
- 1/4 cup finely minced yellow onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1 tsp gluten-free Worcestershire sauce (optional, check label!)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)
- Gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps, for serving
- Your favorite toppings (cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, gluten-free condiments)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, gently combine the ground beef, gluten-free breadcrumbs (or oats), minced onion, minced garlic, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce (if using), salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
- Divide the mixture into four equal portions. Gently form each portion into a 3/4-inch thick patty. Make a shallow indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent bulging.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet (cast iron works great!) over medium-high heat. Alternatively, preheat your grill to medium-high.
- Cook the patties in the hot skillet or on the grill for 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer to your desired doneness (internal temperature of 160°F/71°C for well-done). If adding cheese, place it on the patties during the last minute of cooking to melt.
- Serve immediately on toasted gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps with your favorite toppings and gluten-free condiments.
