Healthiest Turkey Sausage

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings (patties)

Description

Discover the juiciest, most flavorful homemade turkey sausage that’s genuinely healthy and easy to make. This recipe is packed with savory spices and clever additions to ensure a moist, delicious result every time.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) 93/7 ground turkey
  • 2 tsp dried sage
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 tsp sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper (freshly ground)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened applesauce (or finely grated apple)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 large egg white (or 2 tbsp oat flour for binder)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking, optional)

Instructions

  • 1. Prepare Ingredients: Gather all your ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, gently break up the ground turkey.
  • 2. Combine Seasonings: Add the dried sage, dried thyme, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and black pepper to the bowl with the turkey.
  • 3. Add Moisture & Binder: Pour in the unsweetened applesauce (or add grated apple), apple cider vinegar, and the egg white (or oat flour).
  • 4. Gentle Mixing: With clean hands, gently mix all ingredients until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the sausage tough.
  • 5. Form Patties: Divide the mixture into 8-10 equal portions and gently form them into 1/2-inch thick patties. Alternatively, you can use the mixture as crumbles.
  • 6. Cook: Heat 1 tbsp of olive oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4-6 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature 165°F). For crumbles, cook in a skillet for 5-7 minutes, breaking them up as they brown.
  • 7. Serve: Serve your delicious, healthy turkey sausage immediately, or store for later.
