- 1 tbsp cornstarch (or arrowroot powder), plus optional 1 tsp for thickening
- 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari)
- 2 tbsp high smoke point oil (avocado, grapeseed, or peanut)
- For the Sauce:
- 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce (or tamari)
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar (or 3 tbsp honey/maple syrup)
- 2 tbsp water or beef broth
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- For Garnish:
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
- 1. Prep the Beef: In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with 1 tbsp cornstarch and 1 tbsp soy sauce. Set aside for 10-15 minutes.
- 2. Prepare the Sauce: Whisk together 1/2 cup soy sauce, brown sugar, water/broth, minced ginger, and minced garlic in a separate bowl.
- 3. Sear the Beef: Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add beef in a single layer (work in batches if needed) and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- 4. Thicken the Sauce: Pour the prepared sauce into the hot skillet. Bring to a simmer, stirring. If desired, whisk 1 tsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp cold water and add to the simmering sauce, whisking until thickened to a glaze.
- 5. Combine & Garnish: Return the seared beef to the skillet with the thickened sauce. Toss to coat and cook for 1-2 minutes until heated through. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
