Ultimate Paleo Ground Meat Skillet

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

This versatile paleo ground meat recipe is packed with savory flavors and is incredibly quick to prepare. Perfect for a healthy weeknight dinner or meal prep, it’s a staple you’ll make again and again.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil or ghee
  • 1 lb grass-fed ground beef (or turkey, pork, bison)
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 1/2 cup beef or chicken broth (paleo-compliant)
  • 1/2 cup canned crushed tomatoes (no sugar added)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Prep Ingredients. Gather and chop your onion, mince garlic, and measure out all spices and liquids. This ensures a smooth cooking process.
  • Step 2: Brown the Meat. Heat avocado oil or ghee in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground meat, breaking it up. Let it brown undisturbed for 3-4 minutes to develop a good sear, then continue breaking it up and cooking until no pink remains. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Step 3: Sauté Aromatics and Spices. Add chopped onion to the skillet with the browned meat and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, smoked paprika, cumin, chili powder, and cayenne (if using). Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Step 4: Simmer. Pour in the beef/chicken broth and crushed tomatoes. Stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Bring to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing flavors to meld and liquid to reduce slightly.
  • Step 5: Season and Serve. Taste the mixture and season generously with salt and black pepper as needed. Stir in fresh cilantro or parsley just before serving. Serve hot with your favorite paleo sides.
