Indulge in the refreshing classic with this easy, homemade York Peppermint Patty recipe. You’ll love the creamy peppermint filling and snappy dark chocolate shell.
Ingredients
- 4 cups (480g) powdered sugar, sifted
- 1/2 cup (120ml) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon pure peppermint extract (or to taste)
- 2 tablespoons (28g) unsalted butter, melted
- 12 ounces (340g) good quality dark chocolate (60-75% cacao), chopped
- 1–2 teaspoons coconut oil (optional, for smoother coating)
Instructions
- Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine powdered sugar, sweetened condensed milk, peppermint extract, and melted butter. Mix until a thick, pliable dough forms. Cover and chill for 30 minutes.
- Form Patties: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll dough into 1-tablespoon balls, then flatten into 1/4 to 1/2-inch thick discs. Place on the baking sheet.
- Freeze Patties: Freeze the formed patties for at least 20-30 minutes, or until very firm.
- Melt Chocolate: While patties freeze, melt dark chocolate and optional coconut oil in a double boiler or microwave until smooth.
- Dip Patties: Using a fork, dip each frozen patty into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. Return to the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Set Chocolate: Chill coated patties in the refrigerator for 15-20 minutes until the chocolate is completely set. Enjoy!
