Description
Achieve perfectly crisp, oven-baked sweet potato fries that are naturally gluten-free. This recipe uses a simple starch trick for a shatteringly delicious crunch.
Ingredients
- 2 medium-sized sweet potatoes (about 1.5 lbs), peeled and cut into 1/4-1/2 inch fries
- 2 tbsp high smoke point oil (e.g., avocado or refined coconut oil)
- 1 tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder
- 1 tsp salt, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp black pepper, or to taste
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional, for flavor and color)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and place a large baking sheet inside to heat.
- In a large bowl, toss sweet potato fries with oil until evenly coated.
- Sprinkle cornstarch/arrowroot powder over fries and toss until thoroughly coated.
- Add salt, pepper, and smoked paprika (if using), and toss again to distribute.
- Carefully remove the hot baking sheet from the oven and arrange fries in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch or overlap. Use two sheets if necessary.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then flip each fry. Continue baking for another 10-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.
