Homemade Watermelon Gummy Candy

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: Approx. 100-120 small gummies (depending on mold size)

Description

Craft delightful, chewy, and intensely flavored watermelon gummy candies right in your kitchen. This easy recipe promises a burst of summer sweetness in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240ml) fresh watermelon juice, strained
  • 4 tablespoons (about 4 envelopes or 28g) unflavored powdered gelatin
  • 1/4 cup ( 50g) granulated sugar (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon citric acid (optional, for tang)
  • 12 drops red food coloring (optional)
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon natural watermelon extract
  • Neutral oil or cornstarch, for greasing molds

Instructions

  • 1. Prepare Molds: Lightly grease your silicone molds with neutral oil or a thin layer of cornstarch. Place them on a tray.
  • 2. Bloom Gelatin: In a small saucepan, sprinkle gelatin over half of the cold watermelon juice. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until bloomed.
  • 3. Dissolve Mixture: Add remaining watermelon juice, sugar, and citric acid (if using) to the saucepan. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until gelatin and sugar are fully dissolved and the mixture is clear. Do not boil.
  • 4. Add Flavor & Color: Remove from heat. Stir in food coloring and watermelon extract (if using) until desired color and flavor are achieved. Taste and adjust.
  • 5. Pour & Set: Carefully pour the warm mixture into prepared silicone molds using a dropper if desired. Refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours, or until firm.
  • 6. Demold & Dry: Gently remove gummies from molds. If sticky, arrange on a wire rack at room temperature for 12-24 hours to air dry, flipping occasionally.
