Versatile Ground Chicken Skillet

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Description

This flexible recipe uses ground chicken as its star to create a flavorful, quick-cooking meal perfect for any night of the week. Learn the essential techniques for juicy, well-seasoned results.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb ground chicken (90/10 or 92/8 recommended)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup finely diced bell pepper (any color)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or canned crushed tomatoes
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Step 1: Brown the Chicken: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground chicken, breaking it up. Let it cook undisturbed for 3-4 minutes to brown before breaking it further and cooking until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes total. Drain any excess fat.
  • Step 2: Sauté Aromatics: Add diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet with the chicken. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic, cumin, smoked paprika, and chili powder (if using). Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  • Step 3: Simmer for Flavor: Pour in the chicken broth or crushed tomatoes. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let it cook for 5-7 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly and flavors to meld.
  • Step 4: Season and Serve: Taste the mixture and season generously with salt and pepper. Adjust any other seasonings as desired. Garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley if using. Serve hot with your favorite sides like rice, pasta, or a fresh salad.
